Terms of use

Last updated: 3 October 2026. GATAN is a free educational app by Kotaro Design Lab.

Learning and scores

GATAN is independent practice material. It is not an official JLPT test, a certificate, a prediction of your score or a guarantee of passing. Questions, translations and synthetic pronunciations may contain mistakes. Please report them to okuyama.kotaro@gmail.com. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

Game points

A completed learning or review run earns 10 points, once per run. Spending 20 points restores 1 energy after a failed run, once per run. If the final question was already answered, this completes the journey. Original mistakes remain in your record. Short tests do not award points or allow continues. Points are earned only through play and have no monetary value.

Your account

Use your own Google account. Keep your device and account secure. Guest progress is linked to your browser cookie. Signing in to an existing GATAN account loads that account’s history; it does not merge an unrelated guest history.

Fair use

Do not attack the service, access another person’s data, automate abusive requests, or misrepresent the app as an official JLPT service. Account deletion is available in Profile. There are no purchases or paid subscriptions in this version.

Content and audio

Original GATAN materials are owned by Kotaro Design Lab. Third-party materials retain their respective ownership and licenses. Third-party material is identified on the Credits page. If you reuse VOICEVOX audio, you must follow the VOICEVOX terms and applicable voice-library terms, including attribution. A share image can be shared using the app’s sharing feature.
